POTTER'S GIRL SET TO STAR IN MULAN
THE actress who plays Harry Potter's girlfriend is set to star in a Hollywood blockbuster. Katie Leung, 19, from Motherwell, has been tipped to play a female warrior from China in Mulan. The £13.2million movie tells the story of a 5th-century girl who pretends she is a boy and joins the army. Disney produced a cartoon version of the story in 1998. Katie, who shot to fame as the boy wizard's girlfriend Cho Chang, is believed to be the first choice of director Stanley Tong - best known for his work on Jackie Chan films. Her only rival for the role is the winner of a Chinese Pop Idol-style TV show called Mongolian Cow Voice Sour Yogurt Super Girl's Voice Contest. Katie, who lives with her dad, two brothers and sister, beat 4000 hopefuls to land her part in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. She will hit the big screen again next summer when Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix is released. Katie believes that the combination of her Oriental looks and Scottish accent helps impress casting directors. The former Hamilton College student has postponed her plans to attend art school so she can concentrate on an acting career. » Back |
